The West Side and The Green Book: African American Tourism in Asbury Park and Neptune 1938-1967

  • 50 Pitman Avenue Neptune Township, NJ, 07756 United States (map)

During the pre-Civil Rights era, Victor Green published The Green Book as a guidebook for African American travelers of places where they would be welcome. Asbury Park and Neptune were popular destinations. Architectural historian Jenny Shaffer, who is part of a team of researchers working on a public website devoted to the study of sites listed in The Green Book to discover their history and support their presentation, will share her research with you.
